About The Artist
Suya lives in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, a province in northern China which borders Mongolia. She has dedicated years of her life to the study and practice of the Sihu, a traditional Chinese bowed string instrument. The name Sihu comes from the Chinese words "sì" meaning "four" and "hú" which is an abbreviation for "huqin" which is the family of instruments of which the Sihu is a member.
In June of 2016, remix ←→ culture founder Hatim Belyamani (aka HAT) was invited to perform in Beijing. Hatim saw that as an opportunity to meet local traditional musicians. A connection was made with Suya via email which instantly sparked a mutual respect for each other's work. Although Suya was in Hohhot, 600km away from Beijing, and despite the language barrier on both sides, she was so inspired by the previous music videos produced by remix ←→ culture that she jumped on a plane and flew to Beijing to see HAT perform live and then collaborate to bring you these magical moments of virtuosic beauty.
